I looked at almost all NV pieces and chose this one. Will record video or still pictures, can hook to computer to view, can use infrared if needed, grippy rubber texture to finish, lens cap and storage bag, can zoom if needed. I use this NV around my home in the suburbs, so enough moon-star-street light to see well. Have only needed the IR a couple of times. READ the instructions and practice with the buttons. It took me about an hour to understand what does what and how to focus. Be patient and you will enjoy the unit once you get the feel for the controls. Batteries can be regular AA but usage time will be short. I chose AA Lithium ($3.00 each x 4) and found hours of use time. My seller was quick to ship and came packaged really well. Good first 1st gen unit to get. RJ

The infrared works well and this is a good night vision monocular for the money. I wish it had a wider field of view and auto focus. Also even on 1x, it is difficult to view things that are closer than about 50ft. It works really well at a distance though.

I have previously seen bad reviews of this, but this is after all GEN 1 tech, so I don't know what they were expecting. For the price, it is exactly what I expected, would be nice if the FOV was larger, and if you were able to make the actual viewer display darker while using the IR, because you are blinded by the bright display at night, not a big problem for me, but for others this might be very annoying. I was surprised at it's ability to see with minimal lighting, and at the power of the IR. In all I was happy with this.

I bought one of these to sit on a .22 varmint gun in front of a red dot. It also works well on my duty rifle, with minimal shift in zero in front of a 1-4x scooe. It isn't military-grade imaging equipment, but at this price it doesn't have to be. Best employed as handheld or on a rifle. Too heavy for a head harness. Good value, overall.
