Perfect film clarity with fine details. A film of tragic romantic West Side
JETS VS Sharks set in New York A 1961 classic that never dies. This is a love story with a sociology back ground dealing with the young people of New York City block areas. Natale Wood is the pretty little Latino girl who is simply a lovely young Lady in this movie. She and a boy from another block fall in love. Sorta like a Romeo and Juliette but she doesn;t have a Dad. It is sorta gang related. Sharks verses Jests back in the old days. What highlights and accentuates the film is the old school nostalgic New Yorker immigrant community with life first generation young kids who are teenagers who have territorial disputes and such. i'm thinkin these young kids are like maybe war orphans; Children of WWII Veterans. They are young kids who find themselves fighting each other and the form gangs and power cells to establish their territory. The classic New York sounds, city sounds and the orchestra music is flashy. These young kids are into their own sub culture of gangs. They are mostly out of work young vibrant sexually charged youth with a need of some sort of belonging or identity. One group disapproves of the young lovers and there is a dispute violent gang match up to settle the controversial arguments between the two gangs. The lovers are caught between the gang fight as they are in love and between two rival gangs. Th4 Broadway music drives the drama of the happenings of young people who are in like the the 1950's early 60's on The West Side of New York. It's a hot steamy summer and the kids are outdoors ( Air Conditioner lacking days and nights.... The young teenagers find themselves having it out with each other and some maybe finding their young love. This film is of college standard. it is a worthwhile film to observe and to feel the experience of a young generation way back when back in West Side of New York City. Maria Maria Maria ... and Some Place there is a place for us... Beautiful songs with the finger snapping jazzy Jets verses Sharks throw down fight where someone gets killed. The only real sad part of the film is the loss of life. A good study of culture in the hot days of New York City. This 50TH anniversary edition is a fine detailed film; A Worthwhile film for those interested in how it was back in the old days in New York City. Enjoy.Read full review

Reminds me of my youth.
This is a classic movie. I love all the acting, dancing, dialogue and most of all, memories of the 60's. It's Romeo and Juliet and their struggles. It's about true love.
