Riviting Action, Superb Viewing
Another great work from Jackson & his team. They stayed fairly true to JRR Tolken's series, & I believe created a work of films which he would have accepted as meeting the spirit & intensity of his painstakingly imaginative work, Although I do think the end battle could have been longer & greater, rather than anti-climatically short in comparison to drawn-out Helm's Deep battle, especially considering the amount of time devoted to other parts of the series (Then again, I was just as disappointed when Tom Bombadil was absent in the first movie.). Nevertheless, I found it thoroughly enjoyable with awesome cinematography & absolutely packed with 4 disc of choice goodies, to coo "My Precious" over.

Awesome series!! Way better than the theatrical edition!!
I LOVE the Lord of the Rings extended edition. Even though it's longer, I would choose extended over theatrical any day of the week. They include a lot of bonus scenes that the theatrical doesn't include that are often really funny, or even explain the story line that's more related to the Silmarillion. It's filmed really well and you'll enjoy it! The commentary that's included with the extended is hilarious as well!!

The Appendix CD's were awesome
One cannot get any appreciation for what it takes to create a film that is a mix of animation and acting, until you have viewed this set of Appendix CD's for the last of the 3 'Rings' films. The work involved was exhausting and epic. The technology used was over the top. The talent required was akin to designing a space shuttle for NASA. Especially impressive was the care they took to not make the collapse of Saruman's tower look like the 9-11 incident. The film opening in NZ was a mob scene of what seemed like every local resident of the entire country turning out for the parade. Seeing the reception it received worldwide gave the appreciation that this film was indeed something unique in the history of motion picture filming. Being a life-long student of project management, I was truly impressed with the dedicated involvement of the team which far-exceeded any effort I have ever seen designing refineries or power plants. Hats off to Peter Jackson and his quirky but effective directing of this major project. A darn good film.Read full review

Love these movies but misplaced my copy, so I had to replace it. Now I've got the complete set again and have enjoyed it thoroughly.

Excellent screenplay based on Tolkien, well acted, and a quality disc set.
This is the last in the cinematic presentation of the Lord of The Rings trilogy by the brilliant J.R.R.Tolkien. Well acted and produced, it will stand as a classic. This product is a quality production with no flaws. I bought it to replace a former purchase with an acquired defect after numerous playings. It stands as one of the best sets ever.
