One of The Best Films of The Past 30 Years Without a Doubt
If you haven't seen this movie it's a must to see for any fantasy fan. J.R.R. Tolkien's book is followed very accurately with the exception of Tom Bombadil and Goldberry being absent. I purchased this for a Christmas present for my dad who enjoys fantasy films. Once you see the first movie, you're begging for more, you have to see The Two Towers and The Return of The King. This DVD is a must have for any movie buff's collection. This installment in the trilogy is one of the best films of the past 30 years without a doubt.

Movie of the best fictional book ever written
The movie covers the first book in the greatest trilogy of all time. True, Tolkien "inspired" less gifted imitators to write fantasy works (they even copy his orcs and wizards) in much the way genius Jimi Hendrix inspired scores of average guitarists to play solos that are w-a-y too long, have no beginning, no end and are too-much techniques and not enough emotion (Ex Van Halen).
Viggo Mortensen is not quite the macho Ranger, or Ling, we want him to be, but he tries. The rest of this cast is excellent. It's a magical world, set in uninhabited areas of New Zealand. The effects move the plot and are not flash for flash's sake. Wish we had more of the elves.

This movie was very close to the book. Excellent special effects, and characters close to the best make up. Brings to light the best of fiction.
