The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid is Disney's animated version of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale about a mermaid who falls in love with a handsome prince whom she rescues from drowning. Disobeying her father, lord of a great sea kingdom, the mermaid makes a deal with an evil enchantress. In exchange for a pair of legs, the mermaid must sacrifice her exquisite voice to the witch, who, unbeknownst to the mermaid, uses it to beguile the prince into marrying her. You will not be sorry to have bought the Platinum Edition DVD for The Little Mermaid before it goes back in the vault for several years. It is an excellent value!

Stick with a Newer Version of Little Mermaid...
I originally purchased this one because I thought the older the more valuable. However this version, doesn 't have auto play like the new ones, you have to have the remote control nearby because rather then play being highlighted, chapter selection is highlighted and therefore you need to be able to arrow downin the menu to select play. (Which you can't do without your dvd remote in hand.) It also ALWAYS has subtitles on and you have to turn it off each time you play it. Very annoying. So if you're purchasing this as a keepsake, great. I wouldn't recommend this early copy for your little one. You're better off paying a couple of dollars more for the newer copy.

Great movie with at a good price!
The first issue of this movie on DVD format. It is a very good movie that brought Disney back to the greatness that it established years ago! It would have been nice to have a few extras on this DVD! Overall a great first DVD release that I enjoy with my children to this very day!

Disney's The Little Mermaid Limited Issue 1999 DVD
Such a great movie for male or female. It's great to see a great movie. The limited issue DVD from 1999 is really well done with the update colors. Can't beat the 1989 original, but they don't have it on DVD, so the closest is the harder to find 1999 limited issue DVD. The 2006 platinum edition is really good, but I thought the colors were too updated in that version and Ariel's voice is higher.
I really recommend watching the original or the 1999 DVD.
