Bergman at her top! A movie to love.
Only Bergman could have made a plot this hokey into something brilliant. Hollywood stereotyping at its best! The opening scene and the final scene really tell it all. A story of love and a woman who overcame the impossible. A movie from the romantic high period of Hollywood that you can watch many times and never fail to enjoy. Children singing, "This old man.........." I saw as child in theater. This was my first VHS purchase. Now I own the DVD. Hard to go wrong with this classic. I just wish I could see this in the original super wide theater version.

The Inn of the Sixth Happiness
Tracking down a film I hhad no seen for years can be a disappointment, this one is not and stands out as a classic in every way. Set in China with the Japanese launching an invasion, it is a very heartrending story of the epic journey of Grace Aylward leading a hundred children to safety -an dit is true. Ingrid Bergman puts in a marvellous performance, and Curt Jurgens plays the gritty eurasian colonel toperfection. Their romance equals Bergman and Bogart in Casablanca, doomed from the start. What I liked particularly about this film is that is was underplayed drama, which emphases it more and the sense of tragedy grows as the town is threatened. The support acting is very good. Yes, a film that should be in every collection. If the Chinese have a proverb of the 'Five Happinesses', and the Inn was the 'sixth', this film would definitely be the 'seventh.Read full review

Worth every minute you sit there to watch.
I highly recommend you watch this movie. You may or may not shed a few tears watching but it is not a tearjerker. I sit watching with my heart and I am filled with joy and compassion. Knowing this is loosely based on a true story does increase my joy. This is one movie which I have watched 5 or more times and I never get tired of it.

100% customer satisfaction!!! One of the greatest movies ever made!!!
This movie is one I remember from my childhood, and I am so honored to own it.
This movie based on a true story of a missionary who was turned down because she "was not considered capable" proved them all wrong.
Our world would most diffently be a better place if we were blessed to have more of people like her.
One of her quotes "We are all responsible for each other".
Yes this is true without question.
So many lessons of so many individuals who helped he along the way and gave all they had to give including their lives.
No other movie has affected me so much as this one.
Truly a must have movie, if families would have their children and especially their teens watch and absorb the meaningful lessons given by a woman who with stood so many challenging obsticales and over came them with stead fast determination and the will to never give up until she succeeded in her quest to do so much good in a country that had so few to help or even cared to help their own people.
I can't say enough on the greatness of this film that provides lessons the entire human race should aspire to replicate.
Many thanks to all involved in making this one of the best movies ever made then and now!!!Read full review
