A manly man's tear jerker.
Brothers, grab that roll of paper towels and a good stiff drink. You are about to experience the grief and loss of a brother, but also the honor and dignity afforded him by the always faithful USMC. This movie will put you on an emotional roller coaster, but you will be much richer for having seen it. Tears will rain down, but you won't be able to stop watching this flick. Why HBO didn't release this to the theaters is beyond me, but I personally believe it should be required viewing in every high school in this nation. Why? Because it might bring forth some badly needed patriotism.
Now a note to my fellow Wyomingites. This movie deals with the (real) loss of one of our own sons. One would almost fear that Hollywood would desecrate our great state and it's conservative values. However, much to the contrary they do us honor. To those who aren't here, yes, that's how we roll in this state. To those of us who are here, maybe this will attract a few more real patriots to join us. POWDER RIVER! LET 'ER BUCK!
Would I recommend this movie to a friend. Yes, as much as I would recommend praying to God.Read full review

Very well worth your time
Kevin Bacon is excellent in this very moving movie based on a true story about a Marine who died in Iraq. Kevin volunteers to escort the fallen soldier home, which in itself is an honor, but this soldier was from the same hometown as Bacon.
Very informative about how the Marines honor and respect the fallen soldiers, as well as the painstaking practices they go through during the escort process.

Wonderfully building emotion and story line - Great movie!
I had watched this movie on HBO 3 times and I wanted to be able to watch it again when it rotated off HBO's playlist. The story is about a Marine officer (Kevin Bacon) who volunteers to escort the body of a Private (who died in the Iraq War) home to his family and to his funeral. What is remarkable about the movie is that it shows how this task gradually opens the eyes of the officer to the real human tragedy of the soldier's death and to the honor and respect that the people he meets along the way give both to the fallen soldier and to his officer Escort. There is a subtle building of this story that lasts the whole movie...the director and film editor build the emotion and the officer's growing perception of HIS honor of being the Escort mostly through the bit players and the extras; Kevin Bacon simply keeps out of the way. Great movie and very adequate acting for the story; I will be enjoying it for years to come.Read full review

A somber film, that will leave you with a soft heart
This movie Taking Chance, is a tear jerker. Please, have a big box of tissues with you. I cried from the moment it started, to the moment it ended. This movie, is very low keyed, and somber. What respect, and love, strange people, had for a young man killed in action. Kevin Bacon, played the part of escorting the deceased Marine, home wonderfully. He showed respect, and honor, towards this young man. Everyone, who had a part of preparing, and transporting this young man, treat him so well. This is a wonderful movie. I absolutely, loved it. Even though this movies is a heartbreaker. It a movie that shouldn't be missed. The only down fall is that the movie is only 1 hr 12min. Please, view this movie. I am so proud, to be an American. God, bless all these men, and women, who fight, to protect us. They are my HEROES. Thank, to them we, are "FREE" as we will ever be.Read full review

This is one video everyone should watch, I just completed a service for the military and it fit the video to a T, and being retired military I am busting my buttons over it.
