The cast in this film really did a fantastic job!
I myself have a fairly large blu ray collection consisting of around 80 disc. I favor sci-fi and medieval but my 8 year old son loves animation movies so i have many of them as well. This was a great film that kept me on my toes from start to finish. The overall plot of the story actually tied into the entire movie. The picture quality was great as well. I watch my films in movie mode and i calibrated my hdtv as well.

A really well written, directed and cast movie. See it, for yourself.
A sci-fi, down on the big bad government movie, that's completely fictional, except for the government part.
The characters are great and the storyline was above average, while still, somewhat predictable. I believe most would enjoy this, except for, preteens. Some scenes, are simply too violent. Final rating, A for entertaining!

Super 8 is a terrific movie.
Abrams and Spielberg, and many others, did an excellent job with Super 8. They made a terrific movie that should appeal to a wide audience. I would definitely recommend it.

An instant classic! A movie for the ages!
Where to begin? I admit I expected this movie to be just another action movie with no plot, but man was I wrong. Don't get me wrong, Super 8 defiantly has action, with the unbelievably epic train crash sequence which you MUST watch with a surround sound system, but this movie also has a plot to spare. It has characters that are fleshed out and that you truly care about, and a sweet and tender first love story. Some of the deleted scenes focusing on Joe and Alice (Elle Fanning) I felt would have fit in nicely with the movie, but unfortunately JJ thought not. Joel Courtney in his first performance is perfect as the heartbroken and humble Joe, and his acting is top notch and so much better than the spoiled disney actors of today. I enjoyed immensely the featurette that focused on a day in Joel's life. Joel is such a great kid, and he really has a bright future. I also commend all the other kids, as they really mesh well together and their friendships seems natural and never forced. While i was born in 1995, and i never grew up in 1979, i sort of wish i would have, as everything was simpler back then. However, anyone with an imagination as a child can relate to this movie. The only knock I have against this movie is its ending. While it is emotional and I loved it, i wish it would have been longer, but alas, it is not so. Also, i commend Michael Giacchino for composing such a great soundtrack. The song "Letting Go" really enhances the last scene, and teared me up. In today's age, Super 8 stands above the typical Hollywood fluff that we are presented with, and JJ does an superb job taking us down memory lane; making a movie that is up there with E.T. And Close Encounters. Overall, JJ did a fantastic job with this movie, and i can safely say that this is now my favorite movie of all time. I would defiantly recommend anyone to watch Super 8 as it truly is "mint"!Read full review

Well worth watching!
Simply put, this is an adult version of ET, but better science fiction. Everything is really close to being correct for the period (clothing, cars, furniture, TVs, etc.), and boy does it bring back memories of growing up in the '70s!
