Great player for money.
This device is the BDP-BX38. It is sold primarily via membership only outlets. It is almost identical to the BDPS380. Both devices come with the same user manual which lists both devices on the cover. Via PDF's sent to me directly from Sony I learned the differences are as follows: The BDP-BX38 comes with an HDMI cable; BIVL: Live Streaming, Entertainment DB Browser (Gracenote etc.); Bit rate indicator for streaming; 3D: BD-ROM & 3D streaming from Camcorder. Neither one comes with built in WiFi but can have it via a SONY WiFi adapter added to either one of the USB ports. Both come with the exact same remote. Armed with this knowledge I read the reviews for both devices before deciding the BDP-BX38 was the one for me. I decided this based on the fact that though I do have a WiFi N network set up in my home the Wireless Router is parked on the same shelf and directly behind the Blu-Ray player so an Ethernet cable is an easy secure solution to that for me and I don't have to pay for a feature I would never use. I had a horrible Samsung Blu-Ray player that I tried to get to work for close to a year before taking a sledge hammer to the thing for some enjoyment prior to recycling the pieces at the e-waste collection center in my area. Setting up the Sony was far less of a headache than setting up the Samsung. The Sony updated itself in under 5 minutes compared to hours of being locked out of my Samsung. It played my collectors edition 3 disc Avatar Blu-Ray disc without a hiccup compared to an hour or so of will it or won't it games with the Samsung. I only wish I'd discovered this one sooner and or given up on the Samsung sooner! Oh and the Sony comes with a cool app for Android & Apple devices that replaces the remote control. For those that dislike the non flashy Sony menus and the clunky way of entering text I highly recommend the phone app if you have a phone that supports it. Read full review

I highly recommend this product inspite of the couple of difficulties.
This is a fantastic product, it responds quickly to the remote and has many of the top audio and movie apps built into it. Its also VERY easy to set up and use and the remote will work with your Sony TV. The only downside I have found is it does not come with a wifi adaptor (and its not built in) so you have to use a cable direct to your router. I also found that I couldnt get the ipad or android remote function to work but I think this is because I have an at&t router.Quality of the picture and movie streaming is excellent though.

blu ray on a budget.
A great inexpensive unit. The only downside which I was totally unaware of is that some "low end" blu ray players have no memory. You hit stop, step away for a bit and hit play and you`re right back to previews of coming attractions ect. I called sony and they said I can buy a usb device with at least 1 gb of memory and set it to sat-32[whatever that is] to solve the problem or upgrade to a bdp-580 which has memory. Wish I knew this before I made the purchase. If this is not an issue with you then a great way to get a good little blu ray player on a budget.

the sony blu-ray i got....manufacturer refurbished... has far exceeded my expectations in both quality...and ease of use...anyone can set it up in just a few minutes and the upconverting of standard dvd's is truely a wonder to behold..many friends have commented on how great and crystal clear regular dvd's look with this unit...sony sends out updates to programming and this blu-ray updates whenever it is needed...the internet apps are easy to access and have totally changed my viewing habits..i hve always used my hp laptop for entertainment but with the sony blu-ray i can turn my computer off and let the tv do it all...the price...$60.00 i paid has already paid for itself and i always recccomend ebay to friends if you want to get a great unit for a little money..get the sony bdp-bx38 blu-ray and change your viewing life...you wont be sorry Read full review

Excellent product, the picture & sound are amazing.
The difference between watching regular DVDs and Blu Ray is like the difference between VHS & DVDs. This player is very user friendly and easy to use. My only disappointment is that it is Wi Fi ready, & it does not have a built in Wi FI receiver. I did however hook it up to my router thru the Ethernet & now I can watch streaming video on through the Sony. I think Sony makes the best video products.
