About this product
- Product InformationThe eighth feature entry in Konami's premiere survival-horror series continues the traditions of tense exploration and hell-spawned attacks in a disturbing, rural setting, while adding stereoscopic 3D visuals to engulf the player in hazy scenes of pending doom. Set in and around the recurrently creepy town of Silent Hill, Downpour follows an original storyline of a main character with a troubled background. The adventure begins as a prison bus goes off the road in a heavy storm, and convict Murphy Pendleton finds himself, alone and unarmed, in the woods that outskirt the village.
Many of Downpour's locations may be familiar from earlier adventures, but even players who have survived Silent Hill in the past will explore never-before-seen areas, including a diner, defunct transport tunnels, and an abandoned mine, aptly called the Devil's Pit. The first Silent Hill game produced since Akira Yamaoka left Konami, Downpour's score was composed by Daniel Licht, known for his work on Showtime's macabre serial killer drama, Dexter. The pop-metal band Korn contributes a song to the soundtrack as well.

Game can be challenging but tedious at times. Hopefully the next is scarier
I grade this game good rather than an excellent game. I like to believe I have high standards. The screaming bitches who try to piggyback ride you are pretty annoying. The gun goes off at times when you don't expect it. The puzzles and side quests are the meat of the game. Good for a one or two time play and time to pass it onto your fellow gamers. I can only speak for myself. Hopefully this franchise will only keep getting better with the next installment which there are trailers for.

Fantastic game more bang for your buck at this price!
I'm a huge fan of the Silent Hill series and realized that while I've platinumed this game on my PS3, I did not own it. I have all of the other Silent Hill games in my collection, including the ones that came out on the PS2 and Silent Hill for the PSOne. I know that this game in particular got quite a few bad reviews, and I can understand where the reviewers come from in that respect. It had a lot it didn't offer, quite a few places that had loads of room for improvement, etc. But in my personal opinion, as far as Silent Hill games go, this is definitely in my top 2 favorite entries so far, my #1 favorite being SH3. Downpour has astonishing graphics, a twisted story that I definitely wasn't expecting in several areas, and fantastic ambiance. If you're caught up in the moment and not sure which of the Silent Hill franchise to make your first play, make it this one. Unless you're in it for story and timeline... then I recommend you start earlier in the series, probably with Shattered Memories or the first entry. Read full review

Not a 'classic' Silent Hill game, but still a good one.
I am a huge Silent Hill fan and had to finish the series. I was pretty skeptical about this game at first because none of the characters or monsters resembled any of the previous games, but I got over it. Cons: Combat is more difficult due to scarcity of bullets and melee weapons breaking with use, monsters are not as frightening as ANY of the other games, music is made by a different person than the rest of the series, pretty damn glitchy at some points, the vortex thing that follows you multiple times throughout the game threatening to kill you, and the perspective in some of the rooms in the game really sucks. Pros: Really awesome story line, really cool scenes and visuals, the game has a main story line and a bunch of side quests so you FINALLY get the opportunity to explore the town of silent hill, cool bosses, and most of the endings are really interesting. Would play again. Read full review

Close but as usual the Konami franchise Silent Hill disappoints again.
I bought Silent Hill Downpour because it has been out for a year and I want a game that was going to be scary and hopefully patched to work smoothly. The game delivers in old school horror scares. I would say it tops similar games such as Resident Evil 6 in the scare department. The environment I am okay with; rather than fog instead its rain and night-time that you never really get GREAT visibility. If you play the game in the dark setting as its meant to be played is extremely scary. It does give me personally a headache squinting around with the flashlight through the dark. I have to put the game down every hour or so because of this. On top of the usual scares, the combat is clunky and not fun, if the enemies get the jump on you they will get a few hits until you dash and then spam square. The combat though has never been a strength of the franchise but the puzzles were, and they were fun to figure out. The camera angles and quests were reminiscent of old entries of Silent Hill and Resident Evil. The bad part was the backtracking, which you will do a lot of if you finish all the side quests. The otherworld sequences as it chases you is just frustrating, I will sit with the laptop and have the route laid out but I still had trouble getting through those parts. Overall I would have loved this game if it weren't for the frame rate or LAG issues. Many times I will experience lag while playing and at times it will be constant for 5 seconds to as long as 30 seconds, and by now there will not probably be a patch to fix the issue. The lag ruins the environment, the atmosphere of the gaming experience and at times has turned me around, gotten me lost, and also gotten me killed. If you want to be scared and love the series it might be worth renting a couple of days but I would not recommend the game to buy. Read full review

Gotta love silent hill
This game is another installment in the famous silent hill series. In cronicle order its number five. I think the graphics are awesome on the newer silent hill games and this one is indeed awesome. This one isnt quite so cut and dry it gives little info and gradually fills you in on the story line. All in all I think its a great game, but not for people who love the games for the monster killing. Not as much of that going on!
