SECRETS OF THE TITANIC
"SECRETS OF THE TITANIC" was one of the first documentaries released by National Geographic to show the condition of the sunken luxery liner which was filmed a year after the discovery by Bob Ballard. It is narratted by Martin Sheen.
There are better quality documentaries showing the Titanic on the ocean floor today - "Ghosts of the Abyss" and IMAX's "TITANIC" come to mind, but "SECRETS OF THE TITANIC" is very important because it shows the ship BEFORE the location became public and many diving expiditions were made, resulting in further deterioation of the liner. In "SECRETS" you still see the crow's nest in place where lookouts Frederick Fleet and Reginald Lee saw the iceburg - it has since broken away and does not appear in later underwater photography. There is a brief presentation on the history of the Titanic. I recorded this program off of poor cable on VHS and was very happy to find a DVD release thanks, in part, to the successful James Cameron movie. This title is getting hard-to-find now on DVD, so if you want one, and I highly recommend it to see the ship before it became worse because of the rusticles and numerous diving expiditions - if you can find Robert Ballard's book "The Discovery of the Titanic" it is based on this documentary and they go well together!Read full review
