"Made in England"
I have been playing guitar since 1979. I have always used Marshall Amplifiers. I mainly played 100 & 50 Watt MKII Super Leads with Master Volume from the late 1970's. Full Stacks, Half Stacks, and now I have a JCM 2000 DSL 50 Watt with matching JCM 2000 "1936" 2X12" Speaker Cabinet. I was so surprised at how good that 50 Watt Head sounded that I started looking for a similar combo. I purchased a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 401 1X12" Combo Amplifier right hear on Ebay. The previous owner upgraded the 12" Speaker with a "Hellatone" 12" Speaker. I absolutely love this series of amplifiers. First of all they can be had here on Ebay for relatively low cost which is fantastic and then the versatility is really good. The clean channel is really good with a little reverb and the overdrive channel is pure Marshall. These are really good amps regardless of what some guitarists will tell you. I have owned both the 50 Watt Head and the 40 Watt Combo for well over a year and I have not had any issues with either amp. I'm a really big fan of these JCM 2000's. If you want a GOOD Marshall and don't want to buy a "Made in Vietnam" current production model, check these out. Even young players just starting out may be able to afford one of these Marshall Combo's. I highly recommend them! David P. Makowski - Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania 19462 Read full review

DSL Marshall Amp - Great Sound!
I bought this DSL amp as I've heard they had a nice sound. Though used, I am not disappointed. Great sounding amplifier. Was kept in great shape, just like new.

This amp simply rocks out! Sounds stellar with single coils, and equally great with humbuckers. Marshall is the sound of Rock!!

Marshall DSL401 Guitar Amp Combo 1x12
The Marshall DSL401combo 1x12 provide varying levels of church comparable to a stock JCM 800 that has not been modified, and the JCM 900. When the OD 2 channel is engaged you hear a 20db boost and you can get the old heavy metal sounds. The clean channel is good, not Fender good, but this is not a Fender amp. The clean channel does have a gain channel for the dirty sound. The reverb is so, so, but the I believe that most people interested in the JCM 2000 does not buy these amps for the reverb. If you want the modern metal sound, I recommend that you run your favorite metal pedal in front and then you delay, chorus, or similar pedals through effects loop in the back. There are two footswitches in back, one for clean, OD1 and OD 2, then the other footswitch is for the reverb. There are dual speaker jacks that can switch from 8Ohm to 16Ohm, so is you want to run a cabinet to get that big sound, the 40 watts of tub power that comes from 4 EC83 4 EL84 values. will take care of the job, for you small to medium venues. The amp comes is a Celestion custom 12" speaker works for me at this time, but I may switch it out down the road. Read full review

Has the tone I was looking for.
For some time I had been wanting to get a Marshall tube amp to replace my Peavey solid state amp and the DSL401 has not disappointed me. Those built prior to 2004 have a known heating problem. The face plate will get so hot you can hardly touch it. While researching how to cool it down I ran across a Service Bulletin from Marshall where they have you replace resistors R31 and R36 with ones of high resistance and re-bias the valves for 550mv. After I replaced the resistors and re-biased the valves the heat problem went away. It also cleaned up the Clean channel. It is not Fender clean, but if I wanted Fender clean I would have bought a Fender. I have the tone dialed in where I want it to be and just LOVE the Marshall tone when Overdrive channels are selected.
