The Mamma Mia CD album can be a good buy. The songs can served to be a great sound track however, I would recommend to buy the original ABBA version.

If You Saw the Play You Will Like the CD
I saw this play in Nashville TN in June and knew I wanted to get the musical score. I am delighted with the original cast recording. The one thing I would have changed about the recording is on a few songs the music overpowers the singing. I believe this is because the CD was done live during a performance, not is a sound studio.
Other than this minor "flaw" I love the CD because it reminds me of the energy and flow of the play. I see the actions as I hear the music. Plus now I can sing along with the songs which I could only "think along" with during the play.
I highly recommend this CD if you want to revisit your memories from watching the play. I would give this as a gift to someone I knew saw the play. If you didn't see the play they are still good songs, I just think those who saw the play will enjoy the CD better.Read full review

Mamma mia! - Original cast (cd 2000)
It´s great that someone FINALLY sat down and wrote the complete score to all those ABBA songs.
The only, and MAIN thing thats missisng are those wonderful vocals and backroundvocals of Frida and Agnetha.
As a recording i think this would have benefitted from doing a live recording with a audience, instead of doing a stale "copyoftheoldABBArecordings" recording.
Mamma mia is a liveshow, not a stale studioproduct

My favorite toe tapping, sing along and dance to CD
I grew up with the music of ABBA but it wasn't until I saw a live production of Mamma Mia, that I fell in love with this CD. The music is up beat, toe tapping and just plain fun. Every time I play this, I visualize the fun and the excitement of this feel good musical. I actually bought this for a friend that has never seen Mamma Mia, but she and I have tickets to see the stage version in 2009. In the mean time, I thoroughly enjoy cranking up the volume on the CD player and not being able to sit still, (even while I'm driving)for the next hour.
