Tear-Jerking Gender Bending Family Story
"My Life in Pink" (English translation), is about a young boy who not only crossdresses as a girl, but also feels like one. Therefore, this film is about his budding transsexuality & how the people around him react. It is very well executed & true to every day life. Read full review

Ma Vie En Rose ( My Life in Pink) 1997 DVD
This is the story of a transsexual 6 year old child. Ludovic believes s/he was meant to be a girl--as most transsexuals do when they are that young. S/he is waiting for a miracle that will correct this mistake. Though s/he is the young son of middle-class parents and a way opened-minded grandmother, they cannot protect he/r from family reactions, guilt, social isolation, and peer and neighborhood rejections. He/r gender identity expressions include wearing dresses and starring in a classroom performance of "Snow White," as Snow White. He/r family nearly falls faint agasp as suburban gender prejudices swarm into an ever-escalating strain on the family. Ma Vie En Rose became the winner of the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, as well as an international festival smash around the world. For a multitude of gender-variant people, this film is nearly like their gender bending autobiographies with bittersweet childhood memories, good humor, and harsh reality. If you are transsexual this film is a must see. If you are gender questioning and want to learn something about how social pressures and prejudices threaten to destroy a whole family, this film is for you, as well. And if you don't understand gender variance at all, and you are perhaps biased about it, watch this and learn. Read full review

One of the best ever!
If i measure the amount of tears i shed watching this wonderful, wonderful film, i would probably be able to fill a glassful. This is an incredibly powerful film that is told in a light and comedic style that only added extra layers of emotional weight. Love, love, love it!

Why can't children be left alone to grow in peace?
Good insights into homophobic society including the immediate family. Disturbing to see what parents can do to screw up the lives of children.
