Great fun and entertainment with Bing and Grace.
Loved both this and original Philadelphia Story. Bing Crosby's acting doesn't replace Cary Grant's in my opinion but then Cary Grant probably couldn't sing like Bing. Great light hearted entertainment. Would highly recommend it for a good "get away from it all" evening of fun.

Now You Has a Movie!
M-G-M really broke the bank when making High Society (1956), casting not only one world-renowned musician (Bing Crosby), not even two world-renowned musicians (Frank Sinatra), but three musicians known the world over (Louis Armstrong). Add to that Cole Porter's music and the soon-to-be princess Grace Kelly and you've got one top-rate movie musical.
High Society is a remake of The Philadelphia Story (1940), starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, and Jimmy Stewart, except this time with excellent songs and the all-knowing Satchmo character incorporated. The original version is also wonderful. You should watch both.
Crosby plays C.K. Dexter Haven, a jazz musician and the meddling former husband of Tracy Lord (Kelly), who is about to get married to George Kittredge (John Lund). Two newspaper reporters (Sinatra and Celeste Holm) arrive to cover the wedding of these Newport elite, but hitches are on the horizon.
The film has several great songs, including "True Love," "Now You Has Jazz," and "Well, Did You Evah?" This last number between Crosby and Sinatra is very memorable and features a hilarious exchange in which Bing sings his signature "bah bah bah bah boom," prompting Frank to complain, "Don't dig that kind of croonin', chum." Bing aptly responds, "You must be one of the newer fellas."
You're sure to enjoy everything High Society has to offer. As Tracy Lord would say, this film is yar!Read full review

This was a gift for my mother.
She just loved it.
She enjoyed watching a movie in her time period.
She got all the jokes and slang and it was treat for her to remissness.
