About this product
- Product InformationHarvest Moon GBC is a colorized port of Harvest Moon GB, which was released for the original Game Boy in 1998. In addition to new color graphics, an option exists for players to keep the game running after the handheld is turned off (using the system's internal clock). The goal is otherwise the same: after selecting a male or female character and a dog or cat companion, players must revitalize their deceased grandfather's abandoned farm to become a ranch master within one year's time.
To build a successful farm, players need to clean the debris from fields, plant seeds, water crops, and harvest them when they are ready. Additional sources of income include cows and chickens, but players must ensure their livestock are well fed and cared for if they hope to "milk" the results. The farm consists of several different buildings to attend to. The house allows players to check livestock status, the pantry, and even the weather. Storage sheds hold tools and seed types, while the loading area is the repository for harvested crops. The silo stores cut grass for cows and chickens.
Other areas of note include barns, coops, ponds, and wood storage. Since Harvest Moon doesn't isolate players from the rest of the community, characters will be able to visit local merchants to acquire new tools of the trade, such as sickles, hoes, and watering cans, purchase livestock, or volunteer for side jobs to earn extra cash. Each year the grandfather's spirit will evaluate the character's progress, bestowing special rewards for hard work. Harvest Moon GBC also supports the Game Link Cable to trade animals, seeds, or even pets.

Nice for Farming on the go.
If you are the type of person that is into the simulation types of games then this might be the game for you. Since this game is for the Game boy Color don’t expect the detail and customization of Sims 3. This is a more down to earth kind of game, where you can expand your house, plant various types of crops (well depending on how you name your character that is) and take care of live stock. There are lots of items to buy in the game for your animals and to make your farming career easier. Some things you should know about the game play: 1) The game saves as you move between each scene (moving from house to farm land or farm land to chicken house, etc). 2) You can only hold two items and free hand. 3) There is only your farm in which you can freely walk around, when you head into town it becomes a select where you want to go menu. Final thoughts: 1) Nice game to have if you enjoy the harvest moon game series. 2) Gets even more repetitive than other harvest moons due to the lack of features such as trying to marry a girl, or free roaming the town/forest/woodland areas for that matter. 3) Now after playing the game awhile The Harvest sprites will eventually upgrade your sickle or hoe for you, but when they do there is a chance that they might not give the tool back to you after the Real life 12hrs which you have waited for item to be upgraded, since this has happened to me now I must start a new game (luckily its not too far into the game so it’s not a giant loss). All that in mind I have no regrets for purchasing the game and would recomend it to others who like Harvest Moon games. Read full review

Harvest Moon GBC (Nintendo Game Boy Color, 1999)
If you want a true "farming game" experience, this game is excellent. You've inherited your grandpa's farm and as the little farmer (you can choose boy or girl) you can upgrade your home, raise animals, plant and harvest gardens for money, sale milk & eggs, buy tools and food plus the animals CAN have babies (baby chicks, baby cows). There is alot to do, and the more you do the better your farm becomes. At the beginning you can pick a pet do or cat that can stay in the house with you or you can carry them outside for walks around the farm, just whistle and your pets will come back to you! You will also get a sweet little "lost" horse that will wonder in needing a home it will help you so much in harvesting your crops with its saddle bags. You can also name the pets...you will need to cut the grass with your sickle to feed your animals (at least 200 in the silo). Watch out for the sprites in the cave, they can steal your tools! Keep plenty of food bought for your farmer (he has to eat too) you can bathe the farmer in the cave hot springs to refresh & energize him. There are fish to catch and a beautiful fairy princess that you might get to see in the caves as well. Help other people around your farm that need help and they will help you too. At the end of each year (which is shortened in the game) 1 month approx. equals 1 year then on New Years Eve Grandpa's spirit will come and bless you "IF" he thinks you did well then he will give you a special present - if you like Farmville you will enjoy this fun game! There are a few little suprises such as frogs, foxes and moles...work hard & you will own the farm! On a scale of 1 to 10, I have to give this game is a solid 9. Its fun for ALL ages and thrilling to watch your crops actually grow (remember to water them daily if it don't rain) and to see your BABY PETS that you have raised...its kinda do the same thing every day, BUT with a wonderful result...all your hard work makes grandpa proud and he rewards you! The graphics are excellent and the animals are adorable... the seasons change as well...snow, sunshine, rain etc; you can even take the little horse for rides!!! I have this game and I totally enjoy it so I would recommend it to anyone who likes farming...but don't slack off your work or sleep to much the animals can get very, very sick if you don't feed & care for them daily...oh and ooops GRANDPA WILL KNOW! The goal in this game is make grandpa proud & he'll GIVE you the farm to keep... Read full review

Video Game Farming--More Fun Than It Sounds
Harvest Moon makes the idea of a "farming simulation" seem a lot more fun than it sounds. The gameplay is amusing, though there are certain things (like happiness rating) that you don't get any indication of until the first year is over. There could be more as far as indicators gauging how you're doing throughout the year. Also, I never figured out what the phone was for. Everytime I called "The Exchange", the line was busy. Still, it was a fun game, though after the first year the appeal wore off for me.

Interesting game. Not as great as its descendants for the gamecube, but still a good play! Wish that it had a few more elements integrated into gameplay, but still pretty great considering when it was made.

I enjoy Harvest Moon alot but after playing more recent games on bigger platforms such as PS2 (Playstation 2) its hard going back to such obsolete graphics. But the games themselves are fun. There is always lots to do in harvest moon. Maybe one day all the harvest moon games will come together and create the perfect games. My favorite so far is A Wonderful Life (even with all of its glitches)
