Harry and Tonto( DVD, 2004)
Based on the John Steinbeck novel "Travels with Charley", this tale is about a retired schoolteacher named Harry( Art Carney) falling into a cross-country trip with his yellow cat Tonto.
Art Carney won the 1974 Academy Award for this brilliant performance. The cat Tonto was great too!
Highly recommended film!

Art Carney's Performance is a Gem!
While the story may be somewhat dated, this "road trip" by the multi-talented Art Carney shows a real depth that many did not know he had. With strong supporting performances to augment Carney, this is well worth a view.

one of the greatest movies
What a touching story that shows the tender side of a man who has a pet cat as his lifelong companion. Art Carney was a brilliant actor and his true to life portrayal of the character he played deserves an Oscar. He shows us the tender side of humanity. Hary and Tonto is an excellent movie!

I saw a recommendation in the Wall Street Journal. This was one title among several "retirement" stories on DVD. I have a cat, so I really enjoyed trying to figure out how he could walk a cat on a leash for such extended periods. I would think this is one of Art Carney's best performances. I didn't appreciate his talent, since I am used to thinking of him as a comedian. If you enjoy just a good tale, with no Hollywood special effects - except for cat walking :)- have a look see. Probably help if you are an "older" adult on this one.......
