Unique gameplay but recommended for those familiar with the series. It gets difficult near the end, but overall, great and unique to the series.

Epic Gaming Awaits
I have owned and purchased this title many times over the past decade and a half since its release. The replay value and the rich story line are just two of the reasons why I keep coming back to this game. The Treasure Hunter and Explorer missions along with the slew of hidden side quests and unlockable characters make this game in particular one of the ultimate creations from Squaresoft (now Square-Enix). The turn based system is different from other Final Fantasy games but if you have purchased the Game Boy Advanced versions or Playstation Portable revamp of this game its really worth looking at the base where it all began. This game is not lacking in any area what so ever. If your looking to add to a collection or buy a classic gift for someone this is a great buy. Also if its for the younger generation this game is a stepping stone into the amazing world of Final Fantasy. This game was released fairly early in the Playstaion's reign over the world and this game lasted it to the very end. You will not he disappointed with this title.Read full review

Why this game is a must buy for any fan of RPGs.
First off I will say that this game is a lot different than most Final Fantasy and traditional style role playing games (RPGs), hence the "Tactics" in it's title. This game has a fantastic story, that is has a great amount of depth and seriousness to it. The story revolves around a boy named Ramza in a time of knights and kingdoms. There is a lot political suspense in the game with betrayal and corruption. The main focus however are the mysterious Zodiac Stones, which hold some kind of power, and people seem to do anything to get their hands on them... but in order to leave out spoilers I will stop there.
The Battle system is the one feature of this game that makes it one of the funnest and greatest games ever made. In this game you have a party of 5 members you can put in battle. Unlike tradition RPGs the battles are overhead on bigger maps with your players usually on one starting point and the enemy on the other. Much like chess. You move on a grid, and each character stands on a square, and can move or attack on a range of sqaures. In this game you choose classes for characters in order to gain abilities for them. A class can be anything from a fighter character like: squire, knight, monk, ninja, samurai, etc. or magic characters like: black mage (offensive), white mage (healing), time mage (offensive/support), etc. There are a wide variety of classes to choose from, but you must explore and level up classes to unlock new classes. Once you have gained abilities from one class, you can pick a subclass ability to compliment your main class. This opens up a wide range of combinations since you can change your class anytime for no cost. You can have let's say, a thief who can normally steal from close range, but turn him into an archer and give him a thief subclass and presto! You can now steal from long distance.
All in all this game is extremely fun to play, has a great story, and very high replay value. It would be a great game for fans of Final Fantasy games, newcomers to RPGs, or even veteran RPG fans who haven't ever played it. I hope this review was insightful, and I hope that anyone who purchases this game enjoys it as much as I have all these years.Read full review

Amazing game. Recommended to all.
Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the great games for the ages. I've played this game since I was ten years old, and have loved it ever since. I can't recall how many times I've played through it, and I never get tired of it. I also can't recall how many times I've bought it, because I alawys seems to loan out my copy and then never get it back, and so afterwards when the craving hits I can't control it and buy it again.....
A pet peeve of mine is when newer games hear talk about older games and then go back and play them, and then proceed to leave scathing reviews about the "bad" graphics. This happens a lot with FFVII and Tactics. But what these young whipper-snappers don't realize is that, for the time they were released, these graphics were revolutionary, and changed the modern day gaming experience. The graphics for this game have never left me dissatisfied, and have always exceeded my expectations.
The only thing that sometimes irritates me about the game is the translation. I feel like the translators could've put some more effort into a more thorough translation of some of the characters speech. But mostly it just makes me laugh.
This is one of the best Final Fantasy games in my opinion, with a engaging story, solid, tactical gameplay, and a fantastic replay value. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a game to play that will stick with them for years to come.Read full review
