Great! Next time Bring us HDR.
Very very impressed. A close friend has the Canon 550d and I was first intending to get the same but after reading reviews of how good this camera was in low light and how big the zoom was I decided to go for this.

I was amazed at how good the picture quality was and how clear the photos and videos where at full zoom.

This camera also has impressive features like more than 10 photos per second, and slow motion movie built in so its also fun and made for those who want more creative add-ons too!

I fully recomend this camera. I honestly think that this is the last camera I will ever need to buy its that good, I wont ever be able to tell the difference with anything supposedly superior.

Having said all of that I would like to see a HDR setting in an upgraded version. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. I have this application on my ipod that takes two photos after one another at different exposures and then merges the two to create a new photo with more balance... and im not talking about the crap one that is in built into the ipods software, you have to download it... Anyway, yes this application is fantastic. It gives the clouds definition whilst making sure the main subject isn't over exposed... Thats only one example check it out, do some research... So yes I would like to see an inbuilt HDR feature.Read full review

AWESOME Bang for the Buck Camera!
After looking into purchasing a DSLR to use with several old SLR lenses I had I came across this marvelous camera. For what I would have paid for a decent DSLR I now have this which will do it all. More zoom then any of my lenses WITHOUT swapping lenses. Fabulous "point & shoot" abilities, preset "scene" settings for no-fuss adjustments to varying conditions, 1080p video capability w/stereo audio, small and lightweight, HDMI output for direct viewing on HD tv's, swivel LCD display, etc...etc...etc!
My main complaint is that my hands are large and the camera is somewhat small in my grip. Not a big issue as I'm becoming more use to it. I wish the manual was a bit smaller (200+pdf pages)but I purchased a cheat-sheet to help me out there.
I compared a few "superzoom" cameras and felt this was hands-down the best choice for me. After watching several tutorial vids and examples of it's abilities on YouTube I was sold.
I'm merely a consumer photographer and this will do all I want and more. PLUS, it's making me more knowledgeable about the finer aspects of photography too. The ability to play with f-stop, shutter speed and ISO and instantly see the results is kind of fun. I'd suggest ordering a filter set (at least UV and POL) and use class 10 SDHC cards (they write faster then standard cards).
I guess the best thing about the sx40 is how it takes fantastic pictures in almost any settings without the need for a big camera bag with lots of stuff in it.....and adding in the SD/HD 720/HD 1080 video capabilities makes this camera a stunning achiever for me!Read full review

Two Thumbs Up from a Happy Mom!
I'm a busy mom but a camera bug too! I decided to get a high end, advanced camera to bring more depth to my new budding hobby. Being a parent to a little boy and a sporty husband, this camera exceeded my expectations in capturing our best moments! Low light shots are amazing and the Canon Optimal Image Stabilization technology, Intelligent IS lets you take great pictures even in the most challenged moments! And of course, as an urban transit mom who's always on the go, I love the fact that this camera comes with a powerful 35x zoom lens allowing me shoot distant subjects amazingly close! For the developing hobbyist and the curious, I must say that the Canon SX40HS has admiringly delivered the expected!

Still one of the best in it's class.
Bought used two months ago. Was amazed with picture quality. Basic camera with well matched components that does it's job very well. Even using the 4x digital zoom (140x on tripod), pictures and HD videos have wonderful clarity. For those who want some zoom that a cellphone camera lacks and don't require GPS or wireless, I highly recommend this camera.
