This is a fun, fantastic movie for girls.
My daughters liked this movie a lot. It's about two tween girls (Claire and Hailey) who are best friends and live in a resort community. Claire's parents died in a boating accident and she lives with her grandparents, who own the resort. Hailey's mother is a single mom who works at the aquarium and recently got a new job in Australia; her daughter, of course, doesn't want to move. A few nights before the move, the Hailey says a kooky "prayer" while visiting Claire, and there is thunder and lightning and wind that damages the resort. The girls go to check things out and discover a mermaid in the pool, who tells them that anyone who helps a mermaid can get a wish granted. The mermaid, Aquamarine, wants to prove to her father (the sea king) that love exists by making the lifeguard fall in love with her and tell her that he loves her. It is up to Claire and Hailey to make this happen (without anyone else finding out that Aquamarine is a mermaid) so that they can use the wish to keep Hailey from having to move away. Since this is a movie about insecure tween girls, there is, of course, a wealthy, popular, attractive girl to compete with who also wants the Raymond the lifeguard's attention and is a threat to the whole plan.
My youngest loves mermaids, so for her to see a movie with real people and a mermaid was a treat. Think "Splash" meets "The Little Mermaid," only with teens and tweens. It doesn't have a lot of objectionable content, so I feel pretty comfortable letting my girls watch it. The movie is funny, and I think girls can relate to the plot points of girls feeling insecure and comparing themselves to other girls and being sad when they have to lose someone they care about. This is a good movie for moms to watch with daughters or girls to watch together when they just want to sit and talk or relax.Read full review

This is a great family film that will still the hearts of everyone, no matter what age. This movie is both funny and romantic. Two girls try help a mermaid gain the love of a lifeguard, so they can get a wish for one of them not to move away. We started watching and couldn't stop. It was a great movie.
