It's an Apple 17" Laptop that's incredibly versatile, well built and FAST. Need I say More?
These aren't made by Apple anymore. 2011 was the last year for the 17" models. If you have the budget get the latest one. 16GB of RAM Capacity, Blazing fast Quad-Core Processor and capable of running the latest OS. Why spend thousands more for something that you can get for less? I couldn't justify spending over $3K for a new laptop for the just for the simple fact that I don't like the form factor of the new laptops and I never liked Yosemite's ugly GUI that in my opinion lost everything that made OS X so special. El Capitan might be a different story and I'm not upgrading until I know that all my apps and drivers will work and even then, I may not upgrade. I'm so happy with Mavericks right now, I may not upgrade until OS 10.12 or 10.13

I got mine in Mint Condition on eBay for a measly $700 and I couldn't be happier. I'm soon getting a 1TB SSD on it and upgrading the Superdrive to a Blu-Ray Burner for HD 1080P Movies and to backup Logic project files and I'm looking at getting some spare parts for it, too.

I'm getting a couple more just to have and those will be 2011 models. The faster CPU and RAM Capacity will be a wonderful addition to what I already have this one would be a backup for when I need it.

With that aside, Logic X is also wonderful on this laptop. Plug in your interface and keyboard, hit record and off you go! As a musician, I can't ask for anything better to travel with me on the go. 2011's are a LOT better in this regard so like I said, if you can afford it, get a 2011 model.

Sure, it lacks a few things such as Thunderbolt, Retina, and a few other things that I can't even remember right now. I can understand the need for Thunderbolt. but other than that, I just don't see the need for a new one.

If Apple brings back the 17" I'll jump all over it. But right now, other than the new Mac Pro and iMac, I just don't care about their new laptops. AT ALL. The 17" is what made owning an Apple so special. They're still very sought after and for the money, a better laptop is simply non-existent, IMO.

I just LOVE the size and feel of the 17" and I miss that with the latest 15" models.

I LOVE my laptop and it's here to stay until it dies. 'Nuff said.Read full review

Excellent Apple Value
I have an older MacBook Pro 17"- 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/4MB RAM and a 500GB HD. I purchased this newer MacBook Pro 17" for both work and for convenience. It was also time for an upgrade. The newer MacBook Pro is 3.06GHz, w/8GB RAM, and a 750GB Hard Drive. I moves much faster than the older laptop. I like the 17" screen because my eyeballs are getting smaller as I get older. I have also purchased a 27" external monitor to use as well. I have found this model of MacBook Pro easy to use and simple to operate. My only complaint is that the 'glossy' screen reflects a bit too much glare. I prefer the 'matte' screen wherever possible. I am disappointed that Mac no longer makes the 17". I would have no trouble purchasing another MacBook Pro in the future.

Great product! As of today there have been no problems!!
After 7 years the logic board on my '06 macbook died and purchasing this one has saved my job!! it works great and the larger screen is so much easier on my eyes!

The Macbook is a very versatile computer. The screen is optimal for anything you'll need. With an OS:hardware lineup like Apple's, it's tough to beat. Only downside is that the 2009 models are a bit dated. Beware newer OS and software using any model aside from 2011 onward.
