McLachlan's daughter India was born months after the death of her mother, and, of course, there were the ripple effects of the 2001 terrorist attacks. All are addressed throughout these 10 songs, which are ensconced in the ethereal swaddling of subtle piano, acoustic guitars, and light strings. At the heart of this Canadian chanteuse's often melancholy observations is a unwavering resiliency, whether she's finding her way through 9/11's aftereffects in "World on Fire" or seeking solace in the embrace of drummer and significant other Ashwin Sood on "Push." McLachlan also sings of unhealthy relationships, where she finds fault in both herself ("Stupid") and a fictional lover ("Perfect Girl"). Gently rendered, introspective, and heartfelt, AFTERGLOW reaffirms that Sarah McLachlan's mastery of both word and song didn't miss a step, despite a hiatus that equals a lifetime in the world of pop.

I bought it as a chill CD to relax in my car and at home while studying for my classes and chilling out after DJing. She is an awesome singer and vocalist. I am very impressed with this CD, as I like where she took it. It has some very deep song with in it from the heart. I had wanted to buy it when it first came out, but had taken my music else where and forgotten about it until recently when I heard her on air with MSN Radio; so I bought it on Ebay. I am glad I did- excellent buy!I would highly recommend to anyone.

Ethereal, angelic, heavenly,...journey into the heart..
I'm a bit biased, already a huge Sarah McLachlan fan, especially for many of her oldies, but she has triumphed again with this latest album.
She excels still, with reflective, thoughtful, bittersweet pains and triumphs of life, love, and relationships. With some of her usual melancholic undertones, she grabs you gently, pulling you into her tender, poetic world. You're left captivated and forever affected by her superior musical, vocal, and lyrical escapades.
Praise certainly goes out to her band as well. Get ready to be carried off onto a winding path of pain, heartache, and love, only to find healing for your own life's journey. Sarah, you've done it again. An absolute FIVE stars!
