A Knight's Tale (DVD, 2001, Special Edition)
This is a sweet story about a young peasant with dreams of escaping poverty and achieving self-determination as a knight. He travels with friends -- two fellow squires, a woman blacksmith, and "Chaucer". He falls in love with a noble young woman and has a nasty adversary who wants to skewer him. The choice of music [rock and roll] is a bit jarring when first encountered and some of the costumes etc are definitely out of period, but you'll get over that. Listening to the commentary will help you understand why various choices were made to use modern vs old, if you find it troublesome.
The story itself is a classic, definitely medieval, but the hero's troubles are fully comprehensible and relevant to modern audiences. The tournament sequences are great. Unlike so many movies in which knights wear "armor" that is obviously for decoration only, the knights in this movie race actual horses at each other across a field and get whacked with actual lances. So the armor does take a real thump. It and the jousting technique are pretty much accurate to period. The jousting is very well filmed and totally believable - a great combination of scary and wonderful. The dialogue is generally well written and well acted, the characters are all well developed and multi-dimensional. This movie has under-appreciated early performances by Heath Ledger, Paul Bettany, and good work by everyone else. There are some great funny lines, plus moments of tenderness, anxiety, despair and triumph. Who could ask for more?Read full review

A true delight for the entire family! The most fun and amazing movie ever!
This is my family's favorite movie ever! It is fun and upbeat, full of action for the guys, a touch of romance for the women, and plenty of laughs for everyone. It is kid-friendly but has plenty for adults as well. So many of the kid movies are sappy and painful to sit through, but there are many adult movies I don't want my younger kids near. This one is a true family movie. I love it. My teen sons love it (they normally only like horror or action movies that drip testosterone!). My 6 and 8 year old girls love it. We have watched it a hundred times and never tire of it. The soundtrack is amazing and adds so much to the movie too. We quote the movie and are always finding times to slip parts of it into our everyday lives.

Heath Ledger We will always remember him!
Heath Ledger was a great actor even as a secondary role he helped amuse millions with 10 things I hate about you and was a really good actor in all his performances,Mark Addy as I mostly remember him as a very shy Brit in Full Monty in which he really had to get drunk to do the part! :P ,Paul Bettany as everyone knows him as the Assassin Priest with the fetish for chains in Da Vinci Code and Shannyn Sossamon (she was a DJ when they gave her the part as they saw she is both talented and beautiful)who played a brilliant part of a very one man show as most of it she played alone excuse me as a lot do not agree with me a great primadonna part in Catacombs set in a French night life or better dead in a town we never saw in postcards!
If you want to see the very down to earth funny character all of these shared in this movie you must see it more than once it is so funny and most of them had more serious roles in other movies give the bad role guys a chance to see who they really are! PS music is great too as I didn't know they had 60s rock music in the Medievals! 8PRead full review

Epic tale of Love & Life! Heath Ledgers BEST acting!
This classic movie shows the struggle of a boy coming from poverty and grabbing life by the horns to change his outcome and make a better life for himself. Along the way he meets up with a few of the funniest characters in medieval times and falls in love with the princess he would not be allowed to court if he was a lowly peasant......which he actually is. Don't want to give away too much. There is enough action & comedy in this movie to keep even the manliest men watching but the plot of the love is enough to keep the women watching as well. Heath Ledger gives an absolutely awesome performance! The soundtrack is Excellent as well and totally does not fit the movie but somehow does all the same, you will understand when you watch the movie. HIGHLY recommend this movie. You can find it here on eBay for around $5 total with shipping, don't pay more.Read full review
