50 First Dates, for when you need a touching love story with some laughs
My husband and I first saw this movie in a movie theater and enjoyed it very much. His mother is afflicted with dementia and every night when we put her to bed, we have to tell her what we are doing. Seems the dementia has rendered her to having antegrade amnesia. This is what happens to the character portrayed by Drew Barrymore. My husband says to me when we are getting Mom ready for bed "Fifty First Dates." I thought I had this title in my library, but I can't find it, so I bought it again. There is a scene right at the beginning when a sea lion pukes on the Russian scientist working where the animals in the film are cared for. When the Russisn goes off to clean herself up, the sea lion and the character Adam Sandler is portraying give each other a "high five". This is a touching love story and what has happened to the character of Drew Barrymore is revealed in small bits and pieces. Various close friends and family members are trying to do their best care and shield Drew from what has happened to her. Each day, she has to start fresh and Sandler finds a way that can help Barrymore reacquaint herself with hat happened to her.
I will be watching this several more times in the future. It's a fine family film for children even. I don't recall much swearing, no overt sexuality or violence even. It's just a sweet storyRead full review

Great Movie, Great Story, and Great Stars!
Warm story of a young woman (Drew Barrimore) who suffers from memory loss. She is befriended by a young man (Adam Sandler), who falls in love with her. He must make her acquaintance all over each day, which he does because of his great love.

I love this movie - it is a wonderful and fun-loving love story. It proves that anyone truly in love will go through anything to keep the one they love. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, the object of his love, played their roles excellently (I will refer to them by their real names). Before Adam met Drew, he was a playboy and not serious with any woman; however, that all changed when he met and fell in love with Drew. She was no ordinary girl, she had short term memory only - memory that lasted only one day til she fell asleep. When she awakened, she was stuck with the memory of the day before her accident, even though days, weeks, months and years had passed; her long term memory was totally lost, all due to an auto accident she suffered a few years before. She was trapped with not remembering anything about her car accident or anything after that. With trickery (with good motive - love), Adam gets Drew to fall in love with him everyday. Can you imagine each day of love being like the first? He also finally overcomes her father's opposition to his advances and persuades her father, her brother, and all of her friends to realize that he is good for her, and that she is happy when with him. Later, the two become married and have a child. It is wonderful how Adam concocks a way for her to remember him each day after their marriage and to remember their child. I will not tell you how. From the beginning - day one of the movie - and throughout the lovers experiences together - to the end of the movie, the movie is lighthearted, deeply romantic and has just the kind of happy ending you want to see (or is it the beginning? smile) I would not change anything about this movie - it is funny, lively and the perfect love story.Read full review
