Since 2006, the Suzuki SX4 has been in production and considered a reliable compact family car, as well as a sturdy and highly customizable rally car. The SX4 is built on the front-engine, front-wheel drive layout and has enough interior space for up to five passengers. With six engine options, two body styles and four transmissions, buyers can order a car that is unique to them for their driving needs.
In the SX4 base model is a 1.5 liter engine that produces 100 horsepower, but a larger 2.0 liter DOHC I4 is also available. Combined with a six-speed manual transmission, the car produces 133 horsepower and 240 foot-pounds of torque. The SX4 is assembled in Kosai, Japan, as well as in other parts of the world like St. Petersburg, Russia, Esztergom, Hungary, and Bekasi, Indonesia. Although the SX4 is a compact car, it has plenty of legroom for passengers in the back.
The Suzuki SX4 was marketed in 2006 and is still currently being produced. For five years, the SX4 has thrived in all of its markets and is sold in both four-door sedan and five-door hatchback versions. In its early stages, the SX4 was marketed as a crossover, but the name was dropped and the hatchback took its rightful place in the market. In 2007, the SX4 arrived in the United States as an all-wheel drive vehicle, but it was only offered as an option in Canada.
In 2010, the Suzuki SX4 underwent a redesign and a new Sportback model was introduced. Some new features of the 2010 model include six airbags, anti-lock braking system, front and rear disc brakes and an electronic stability program. The grille and tail lights were also revamped, and a new instrument cluster, climate control and door trim were added to the interior. The Sportback model comes equipped with standard features, but it has a lowered suspension, body kit and new rear spoiler.
The SX4 was named a contender for the Motor Trend Car of the Year Award in 2007, and Autobytel.com named it a Best Kept Secret. One year later, Consumer Guide named it a Best Buy, while Autoweek reported that it was a cool entry-level car. Car and Driver stated that the 2008 model was a leap forward for the brand". In 2009, the SX4 was once again named a Consumer Guide Best Buy. The 2010 model year brought the SX4 into the Top 10 Coolest New Cars under $18,000 list by Kelley Blue Book.
