The Daewoo Lacetti is a compact car that has been in production since 2002. The sedan became available in the US in 2004 as the Suzuki Reno. The 2008 model looks nice on the outside and is roomy on the inside. It matchs up with other cars in its class in terms of handling, fuel economy, price and number of safety features. It is Suzuki's most inexpensive car, with a practical hatchback including many power features plus a seven-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
The Reno features the 2.0 L 4-cylinder E-TEC II engine producing a maximum power of 126 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 131 lbs. ft at 4,000 rpm. Acceleration is slow, and the engine buzzes even at low speeds. It offers a 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive but is available with a 4-speed automatic with overdrive. The Reno's fuel economy rates 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, which is not great, nor is highway handling particularly spectacular.
The Reno initially appeared in other countries as the Daewoo Lacetti by designer Giorgetto Giugiaro Pininfarina. It was produced in Bupyong, South Korea; Colombia, Venezuela, Thailand, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, China, and Uzbekistan. The Reno came to the US in 2004. It was discontinued in 2008, replaced by the Suzuki SX4 sedan.
This sedan seats five adults comfortably, with front bucket seats and a center armrest with storage. Other standard interior features include under seat heat ducts, AM/FM radio, CD player in dash, MP3 decoder, four speakers, air-conditioning, power locks and doors, split folding rear seat and radio theft deterrent. The Convenience Package includes cruise control and a steering wheel integrated stereo control. Options include a roof rack and cargo net. For a small car, the Reno offers impressive cargo space at 8.8 cubic feet of luggage capacity with the rear seat up and 45.4 cubic feet with it folded down. Unfortunately, the interior looks cheap.
The styling of the Reno is European and distinctive, if not appealing. Exterior elements include multi-reflector headlights, intermittent wipers, 15 inch steel wheels, wheel covers and heated power mirrors. A Convenience package includes remote key entry. A lip rear spoiler is available. Safety features include day-time running lights, front, driver side and passenger side airbags, occupancy sensor and side impact bars. The Convenience package offers a panic alarm and security system.
