2005 Subaru Outback

About the 2005 Subaru Outback

The Subaru Outback is a compact sports utility vehicle. Featuring symmetrical all-wheel drive, ample ground clearance, and a smaller design that many other SUV's, this crossover is capable of going places larger vehicles cannot. Because the Outback's standard features and options, it is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys getting out and enjoying open roads or hidden pathways. The Subaru Outback is an appropriate vehicle for families as well as frequent travelers and adventurers.

The Outback is available with either a four- or a six-cylinder engine. While the six-cylinder engine provides the greatest power, the four-cylinder option also provides a great deal of power while providing greater fuel efficiency. The four-cylinder engine can get up to 29 miles per gallon highway compared to the 25-27 miles per gallon of the six-cylinder option. The vehicle features comfortable seating for up to five people.

In the mid-1990s, Subaru's American division was suffering from decreased sales because of the lack of a sport utility vehicle. Because the company did not have the time or funding to create an entirely new vehicle, they added a suspension lift and body cladding to the Subaru Legacy and dubbed the new model the Legacy Outback. Sales of the new model exceeded the company's expectations, and it has been credited as saving the Subaru company. In 2004, the Outback officially became its own product line. To date there have been four generations of the Subaru Outback internationally and five generations in North America. The latest fifth generation Outback appeared on the market in 2010. With an upgraded interior and the ability to go almost anywhere in style, the latest Outback embodies what consumers have come to expect from a crossover SUV.

The Subaru Outback is available with several options and features. For many people, however, the most important option is the engine. Although the six-cylinder engine offers more power, many consumers choose the four-cylinder model because of its increased fuel economy and lack of a need for a more powerful engine. It is available with a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic. Most models come standard with a four speaker stereo system with an in-dash single disc CD player but can be upgraded to a nine speaker premium system with a six disc in-dash player. XM and Sirius Satellite Radio are also available options. Keyless entry comes standard as do industry leading safety features including rollover sensor, anti-lock brakes, traction control, and six airbags.

Thanks to its power, durability, safety, and overall design, the 2010 Subaru Outback took home Motor Trend Magazine's coveted Sport/Utility Vehicle of the Year Award. The Outback also has the highest predicted resale value in its class according to Kelly Blue Book, and it is an IIHS Top Safety Pick for 2011. ... View more
