About the 2006 Nissan Pathfinder

The Nissan Pathfinder is a midsized SUV that has been in production over 25 years and is currently available in 5 different models: S, SV, Silver Edition, the LE V6, and the LE V8. These vehicles can easily transport 7 passengers which make them a good fit for larger families because it contains over 64 different possibilities for positioning seating and cargo. Originally intended to be used for both off-road fun and as a practical means of family transport, this car has not received rave reviews for both.

While the Nissan Pathfinder S, SV, and Silver Edition can be purchased with a 4.0 liter, V6 engine, the Pathfinder LE is the only model that offers a V8. The Nissan S model comes equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission while all of the others have a 5-speed automatic transmission that will shift to manual mode. All models come with independent double-wishbone front and rear suspension and can get from 13 to 22 miles per gallon. While the Pathfinder was designed in Japan and production of some models still remains there, Pathfinders sold in the United States are manufactured in Smyrna, Georgia.

The first Nissan Pathfinder rolled off the line in 1986 and only offered 2 doors until 1990. At this time, the original V6 engine is enhanced with the addition of a multipoint fuel injection system. Within 10 years, the body of the Pathfinder had undergone similar advancements. The new uni-body construction gave the car a rounder shape for sportier appeal. By the time the 2001 models appeared, the Pathfinder had grown almost 7 inches and lost its original label of compact car. It took Nissan until 2008, however, to offer the Pathfinder with a powerful V8 engine.

Although rear seating may be a little cramped, the Nissan Pathfinder is still popular among consumers looking for family transport that can also be used for transporting cargo similar to that hauled by a small sized truck. The Silver Edition features the new keyless entry and ignition system, along with an information system and rearview monitor for additional safety. The dual zone automatic temperature controls keep all passengers comfortable and are featured in all models except the Pathfinder S.

The 2010 Nissan Pathfinder was given the AutoPacific Best in Class Vehicle Satisfaction Award for premium mid-sized sport utility vehicles. This is probably due, in part, to the numerous safety features included on most models. These include a tire pressure monitoring system, supplemental air bags mounted in the roof to give passengers protection from side crashes or roll-overs, and active head restraints for front seat passengers. The Pathfinder is also backed by Nissan's 36,000 mile limited vehicle and 60,000 mile limited powertrain warranties. ... View more
