About the 2011 Lexus RX350

The Lexus RX is designed as a luxury SUV with crossover features from high-end sedans and more traditional SUVs. It has been produced with all-wheel and front-wheel drive. Both drive versions are powered by six-cylinder engines. While the RX may incorporate some SUV elements, it is designed more for touring around the city than off-road adventures. With three generations produced thus far, the Lexus RX has been a success for the company and inspired similar vehicles from competitors.

The Lexus RX outputs 275 horsepower at 6,200 RPM. It is predicted to earn 18 miles per gallon in the city and 25 on the highway. Five people can ride in the Lexus RX. It will tow 3,500 pounds with an optional package. The most recent Lexus RX generation has been primarily designed in Nagoya, Japan. Some design elements have come from Lexus centers in Nice, France, and Newport Beach, California. The Lexus RX is assembled in Japan and in Canada's Cambridge plant.

The Lexus RX originally debuted in February 1997 as a prototype. The crossover's sales debut was at the 1998 North American International Auto Show. While car analysts questioned whether there was a market for the new vehicle type, Lexus sold more than 370,000 units in its first five years on the market. The Lexus RX has progressed through three generations, adding standard stability control and making more safety options available. The current model also has a hybrid version available. The hybrid model has unique styling features and slightly higher horsepower from its electric motor.

Designed for upscale customers, the Lexus RX offers a number of optional packages. The Sport package includes 19-inch wheels and suspension upgrades. The Premium package is the most popular and brings upgrades such as leather seats, a powered lift-gate in the rear, and a sunroof. Buying the Premium package allows people to upgrade to the Comfort package. The Comfort has heated seats and adaptive headlights. The Luxury package has interior upgrades. The Navigation package includes a navigation system with real-time updates to traffic information. Because the Lexus RX is targeted towards an upscale market, most purchasers opt for at least one package.

The Lexus RX has been highly decorated during its history. J.D. Power and Associates has awarded it numerous Best Entry Luxury SUV" citations. The Lexus RX won three "Best to Hold Value" Awards from Kelley Blue Book. Ward's gave the Lexus RX its Design Harmony award for the 2010 model's interior. Intellichoice proclaimed the Lexus RX to have the "Best Overall Value in the SUV Market over $30,000" every year from 2003 to 2005. Automotive reviews have cited the Lexus RX's interior comfort and reliability as reasons for its commercial popularity. ... View more
