About the 1989 Jeep Wrangler

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most well-known sports utility vehicles, or SUVs, and is also designed as an off-road vehicle. This vehicle is manufactured by the Jeep division of Chrysler. The Jeep Wrangler is probably most famous for its eye-catching, compact design and its ability to withstand rough terrain. The traditional Jeep Wranglers are two-door vehicles, but the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited design features four doors and increased seating.

This SUV is rated for 15 city miles and 19 highway miles per gallon of fuel and has an 18.6 gallon fuel tank. Standard Wranglers can seat up to four people, while the Unlimited models can seat five. The Jeep Wrangler can tow up to 2000 pounds, and the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited can tow 3500 pounds. The original Jeep Wrangler, also known as the Jeep YJ, was first produced in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, and Wranglers are currently manufactured in Toledo, Ohio.

The first Jeep Wrangler was released in 1987 and quickly became known for its distinctive design, which was based on the World War Two Jeep" vehicle as well as the later Willy's Civilian Jeep, or CJ. This first generation introduced many options for the vehicle's trim and design. The Jeep Wrangler Renegade, Sahara, and Islander were a few of the different designs offered. The first generation, or YJ generation, was replaced by the second, TJ, generation in 1997. This generation made some changes that created a more comfortable ride, such as improved suspension, and introduced the Rubicon and Unlimited designs. The JK, or third, generation began in 2007 and featured a larger design as well as improved performance and safety features.

The Jeep Wrangler is typically four-wheel drive as would be expected in this type of vehicle, and most models have a six-speed manual transmission. However, the Wrangler Unlimited Sport has a four-speed automatic transmission. These SUVs typically come with a full-size spare tire. The Jeep Wrangler also has a convenient Sunrider Soft Top. The current trim levels include options such as the Rubicon off-road package, the Sahara luxury model, the Sport, and the Jeep 70th Anniversary Edition. The Sport trim is relatively popular as it has the lowest cost and best fuel efficiency.

The Jeep Wrangler has remained popular as well as earning quite a few awards. Four Wheeler magazine named the Wrangler Rubicon and the Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon the Best 4x4 Vehicles of the Decade, and named the 2010 Jeep Wrangler "Best New Car for Off-Roaders". Jeep was also ranked the Top Domestic Brand of Kelley Blue Book's in 2010. In May 2009, Business Week Magazine called the Jeep Wrangler, "one of the most iconic cars of the last 20 years". ...
