The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a mid-size SUV that combines modern styling with rugged utility. The standard V6 engine along with optional four-wheel drive give this SUV the ability to power through off-road terrain or swiftly accelerate on the highway. With five trim levels, the 4th generation Jeep Grand Cherokee will please anyone with an appreciation for Jeep's legacy for uncompromising power coupled with a classic design that can maneuver easily through parking lots or rutted roads.
With better fuel-efficiency and longer-lasting spark plugs than previous engines, the new 3.6 L Pentastar flex-fuel engine is Chrysler's most advanced six-cylinder engine to date. With the Pentastar, the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets 23 miles per gallon on the highway. Also available is the 5.7 L Hemi V8, voted Ward's 10 Best Engines of 2009. Following the buyout of American Motors Corporation, the Grand Cherokee was the first Jeep product manufactured by Chrysler. Debuting at Detroit's 1992 North American International Auto Show, the Grand Cherokee was the first SUV to feature UniFrame construction for increased durability, an important distinction from its competitor, the Ford Explorer. The 2005 model reflected Chrysler's emphasis on road performance over off-road capabilities by improving vibration and noise. The newest model strikes a balance with aerodynamic testing and increased durability.
All models feature 5-speed automatic transmission and electronic stability control for all-season capability. Optional 4-wheel traction control gives added stability by automatically detecting and correcting wheel slippage. All trims offer CD player, MP3 capability and optional four-wheel drive. Premium speakers, DVD player and SIRIUS Radio are available on some models. Most models feature a rear park assist system, a rear back-up camera and a remote start system. Heated, leather-trimmed bucket seats are also available.
The Grand Cherokee has more than a dozen awards and recognitions. The newest model has earned the Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Control and a "5-Star Side Crash Rating" from the U.S. government. The Texas Auto Writers Association named the Grand Cherokee the "SUV of Texas".
