About the 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

The Hyundai Santa Fe is a mid-size crossover SUV sold only in a four-door body style. It has a front-engine placement paired with either front-wheel or four-wheel drive. The Santa Fe has undergone two generations since being introduced in 2000. With a low base price and generous standard equipment, the Santa Fe helped Hyundai establish itself as a top car manufacturer in the global market.

The Santa Fe has a four-cylinder engine producing 175 horsepower for two of its trim levels. The four cylinder Santa Fe should receive 20 miles per gallon in city driving and 28 on the highway. A V6 with 276 horsepower is optional for the GLS and Limited trims, but standard for the SE trim. The V6 Santa Fe is predicted to have 20 miles per gallon in city driving and 26 on the highway. The Santa Fe seats five people. Hyundai primarily designed the crossover in South Korea and manufactures it in Ulsan, South Korea.

The Santa Fe was one of the vehicle models that allowed Hyundai to become a global manufacturer. After critics panned the first generation's lack of horsepower, Hyundai installed new engine options for the second generation. The Santa Fe was widely popular because of its numerous standard options, relatively low price, and a long warranty backed by Hyundai. The Santa Fe's second generation received modest updates in 2010.

Hyundai currently sells the Santa Fe in three trim levels. The GLS trim has 17-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, and key-free entry. The driver's seat is adjustable and the steering wheel telescopes and tilts. The audio system has six speakers and includes a USB interface for MP3 players. Bluetooth capability is included as well as satellite radio. The SE trim has 18-inch alloy wheels, a windshield wiper de-icing system, leather and cloth upholstery, and a rear-view mirror that dims automatically. The Limited trim includes a sun roof, front seats with a heating element, and full leather upholstery. The audio system is upgraded to ten speakers with surround sound. A Premium package for the SE or Limited trims can add a navigation system with a touchscreen and a rear-view camera for reverse driving assistance.

The Santa Fe has received perfect five star ratings in 2010 government crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Santa Fe a Good" rating for frontal-offset and side crash tests. Insure.com rated the Santa Fe #1 on its 2009 "20 Least Expensive Vehicles to Insure" list. Consumer Reports gave the Santa Fe a 2008 Top Pick award. Independent automotive reviews have highlighted the Santa Fe's low price and generous standard equipment, but noted the exterior design is growing outdated compared to Hyundai's other models. ...
