About the 2000 Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is a five-passenger compact crossover SUV. As Honda's first official SUV, the CR-V has carved out an impressive reputation for itself since its 1995 debut. Three generations later, the vehicle - which is available in all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive - continues to thrill drivers. Its 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine gives it plenty of spunk, while its reclining and sliding rear seats tumble forward to provide 73 cubic feet of storage space. This affordable, award-winning vehicle is available in several trim levels that span a wide range of different options.

When it comes to fuel economy, the CR-V is middle-of-the-road. Vehicles that are equipped with front-wheel drive have a fuel economy rating of 21 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway and 24 mpg combined; all-wheel drive CR-Vs get 21/27/23. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard across the board. The CR-V was designed in Japan; today, it is manufactured in nine different places: Ohio, Indonesia, Taiwan, Mexico, England, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand and China.

The Honda CR-V shook up the world of SUVs when it debuted in 1995. The first-generation Honda CR-V was available in a single trim level, the LX. Its 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine left many drivers cold, however, which prompted several engine upgrades through the years. A full redesign for the second-generation CR-V was unveiled in 2002; its interior was enhanced considerably at that time. The third-generation and current version of the CR-V first rolled out of factories in 2007. This time around, a rear lift-gate was added and the rear spare tire was eliminated.

Not surprisingly, higher-level trims of the Honda CR-V tend to be the most popular. As affordable as the vehicle is, many drivers are happy to splurge to enjoy the perks that go along with the EX-L trim, which includes leather upholstery, heated front seats, sunroof and dual-zone climate control. While not quite as popular, the EX-L with Navigation includes a bright navigation screen and a rear-view camera. Although AWD versions of the CR-V are popular, their reduced fuel economy ratings scare some people away.

Awards and accolades have been heaped upon the Honda CR-V through the years. Most notably, it received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's prestigious Top Safety Pick award in 2007. More recently, the 2011 Honda CR-V was named a Top Recreational Vehicle by; Kelly Blue Book also gave it the Best Resale Value award. Those awards reflect the CR-V's reputation for impeccable safety, sleek design and excellent value; older models of the CR-V tend to sell for very good prices. ... View more
