The Ford F-150, a comfortable truck available in a variety of styles that suit work or pleasure-related pursuits, can have two or four doors and can seat up to 6.
Ford introduced the F-150 more than 60 years ago as a no-frills workhorse, rugged and built to last. Introduced in 1948 as the F-1, the truck was an improvement over previous Ford trucks as it boasted a one-piece windshield, a bigger cab and a smoother body line. Until 1997, utility was a first priority while comfort came second. Since then, the truck has changed to become versatile for any need. From business matters, hauling a trailer or boat, or carrying a couple to their date night, this truck suits the situation.
Hauling capacity for the F-150 is 3,060 lbs. and its towing capacity is 11,300 lbs. Today's F-150 was redesigned with comfort in mind, however, and offers Sync, a voice control system that handles the driver's cell phone and the truck's built-in audio system. The interior is plusher and the outer trim means business in an appealing way.
The Ford F-150 is currently available in 10 trim levels. With three cab sizes, three bed lengths and the variety of trims, which go from basic work to the Harley Davidson leather and chrome themed truck, it is almost a guarantee that one will fit your preferences. The newest F-150s are available with an automatic transmission only. However, three engine sizes (3.7 L V6, 5.0 L V8 and a 6.2 L V8) are available. The truck also comes with five-star ratings for front and side driver and front and side rear passenger safety, and four-star ratings for two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive rollover safety. The truck comes standard with both front and side impact airbags.
The Ford F-150 was the best-selling vehicle in the United States for over two decades and has held the honor of best-selling truck for 34 years. In 2004, the F-150 was named both North American Truck of the Year and Motor Trend's Truck of the Year. Car and Driver Magazine also named it Best Pickup Truck for 2004 and 2005, defeating the previous champion, the Chevrolet Silverado. In 2009, the F-150 was awarded numerous honors, including the Automotive Excellence" award from Popular Mechanics in the Workhorse category, "Top Safety Pick" from the Institute for Highway Safety and "Best Overall Half-ton Pickup" from PickupTrucks.com.
