The fifth generation Chevrolet Camero was designed by Sangyup Lee and assembled in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. The LS and LT series are powered by the 3.6 L GM LLT V6, supplying 304 horsepower at 6400 rpm. The SS with automatic transmission is powered by a new type of the LS3 called the GM L99, which supplies 400 horsepower at 5900 rpm, while the SS with manual transmission is powered by the 6.2 L GM LS3 V8, turning out 426 horsepower at 5900 rpm. The LS/LT series gets 29 mpg highway, while the SS series gets 25 mpg highway. Seating capacity is 4 people.
The first generation of Camero was produced from 1967 to 1969. It featured new rear-wheel drive. The second generation was produced from 1970-1981. The choice of convertible top was taken away and the car was lower, wider, and longer than the first generation. From 1982-1992, the third generation was available. This Camero was the first to have factory fuel injection, 4-cylinder engines, 4-speed automatic transmissions, 5-speed manual transmissions, and hatchback bodies. The fifth generation Chevrolet Camero has won several awards. It was the 2010 Driver's Choice from Motor Trend. It was awarded the World Car Design of the Year at the 2010 World Car of the Year Awards. Consumers Digest called it a "Best Buy". Ward's awarded it with the 2010 Interior of the Year in the sports car class. Kelly Blue Book gave it the 2010 Best Resale Value Award. The Chevrolet Camero was the Official Pace Car for the 2009 Daytona 500 and the Official Pace Car for 2009-2011 for the Indianapolis 500.
