With the growing focus on the environment, the demand for hybrid cars is on the increase. These greener vehicles are no longer disregarded by even the most enthusiastic car lovers and the prices are coming into line with standard vehicles as well. The majority of manufacturers are now introducing hybrid and EV models to their line-ups, so lets take a look at the best hybrids cars on the market at the moment.

Ford Fusion Hybrid

The Ford Fusion Hybrid has experienced some high sales so far in 2013 securing its place in the 2013 hybrids top five list. The fusion offers an all round vehicle which looks sleek while offering a comfortable drive and some impressive performance stats. One of the key selling points of the Ford Fusion Hybrid is the fact that from the outside, it is impossible to tell that it is a hybrid vehicle! With great fuel efficiency and the ability to reach 62 mph before any fuel consumption, it is not difficult to see why the Ford Fusion Hybrid is so popular.

Compared to other hybrid models, the Toyota Prius C has been criticized for a slightly sluggish acceleration. However, the Prius was one of the first hybrids to secure any significant sales in the United States which has cemented it in most people’s minds as a big player in the hybrid market. The Prius C model is a very affordable option for those looking for a greener vehicle and it boasts a pretty impressive gas mileage which is improved when the car is driven in Eco Mode.

Honda Fit Hybrid (aka Jazz)

You may be familiar with the Honda Fit (in some countries called Jazz) and its versatile, folding “magic seat”, but it is also gaining attention for the new hybrid version which is the cheapest version of the Fit when it comes to running costs. Recent tweaks to the Fit Hybrid have helped to improve fuel economy making it the ideal city car. Despite the vehicle now sporting a bigger engine, it now uses far less gas thanks to the new lithium-ion battery and seven speed dual clutch transmission.

The next-generation Honda Fit subcompact will be unveiled this fall and arrive in the U.S. in the first half of 2014. Most of the buzz over the new Fit – known as the Honda Jazz in some countries – is the hybrid version, which promises a 35% improvement in fuel economy and an estimated 86 mpg.

Chevrolet Volt

In the latest consumer polls, the vehicle scored highest for customer satisfaction. As one of the most eco-friendly cars on the market, the Chevrolet Volt certainly deserves a spot in this year’s top five.

Curious, where does the Honda Insight fit into the ratings? Hard to believe two Chevy products overate it. Are you sure you don’t work for the government, or Government Motors lol? 1st question serious & hope you have a sense of humor on #2 question. Thanks.

Al, if you owned a Volt you would NOT be surprised at the rating. Mine has 51,000 miles on 400 gallons of fuel. Do the math.
