The 2016 HR-V is Honda’s contestant in the compact crossover arena, at once engaging both stalwarts like the Nissan Juke and upcoming rookies like the Mazda CX-3. Honda’s lineup in recent years has been a bit of a bitter pill to swallow for enthusiasts, though.

When it arrived in 2003, the sleek and stylish Nissan Murano was one of the first crossovers to break from the square mold that SUVs have been traditionally cast from. Our post-post-modern age is subject to all kinds of ambiguities, sub-niches, gender-bending and confusion. In that sense, the BMW X4 that we recently drove for a week is a product of our times. It’s a coupe-like luxury crossover. For us, as delightful as the acceleration and handling was—after all, it’s a Bimmer—we...

The 2015 BMW X6 M is the baddest performance SUV or SAC (Sports Activity Coupe) on the market. With a combination of rabbit-like agility, turbo technology, high-performance braking and the intelligence of Apple’s iOS, this Bimmer Beast is more dominant than Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch on a go-kart. Acceleration? Check!...

The new...
