Following the North American debut of the 2014 GT-R and a display of the popular DeltaWing racer at December’s Los Angeles Auto Show, Nissan is bringing two new road car ideas to the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The all-new 2014 Nissan Versa Note continues Nissan’s rollout of new models, while the Resonance concept presents a vision of a future crossover. Let’s take a closer look at Nissan’s 2013 Detroit Auto Show offerings:

2014 Versa Note: The Versa Note is Nissan’s redesigned affordable hatchback, slated to hit dealers in June of this year. While retaining the surprising interior room of the outgoing Versa, the 2014 Versa Note adds the option of NissanConnect, which includes a Navigation system and Around View Monitor. The exterior styling is notably more dynamic than the previous Versa hatchback and positions the Versa Note as a serious competitor to the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris. The 2014 Versa Note will ship to dealers with an MSRP of $13,990; pricing for the optional S, S Plus, and SV trim levels will be released as we get closer to June.

Resonance Concept: With bold new design language and a hybrid powertrain, the Resonance Concept foreshadows a new Nissan crossover, which speculation suggests could become the next-generation Murano. Making its world premiere at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, The Resonance Concept’s profile is flowing and athletic with swooping LED versions of Nissan’s ‘boomerang’ head- and taillights and a ‘floating’ roof. Power for the four-wheel drive Resonance Concept comes from a 2.5-liter gas engine mated to an electric motor. Nissan describes the interior aesthetic of the Resonance Concept as a “futuristic VIP lounge”; the instrument panel continues the ‘floating’ theme from the roof outside to the interior, and layered images create a holographic display. How much of the Resonance Concept translates to a real-world production model remains to be seen; for now it’s a bold expression of Nissan’s willingness to put itself out there design-wise.
