Justin Bell Drives New Jaguar F-TYPE [video]

News  /   /  By Justin Bell  /  By Justin Bell

Three world-renowned drivers – Justin Bell, Martin Brundle, and Christian Danner – were invited to test drive prototype models of the new Jaguar F-TYPE at Snetterton Race Circuit and on the roads surrounding Norfolk in the UK. While both the 380hp V6 and 495hp V8 models are still considered prototype models and were wearing camouflage colors, the cars provided for test are close to going into production and were representative of their powertrain and driving dynamics that customers will experience starting in summer of 2013.

The 380hp F-TYPE S covers the 0-60 mph sprint in 4.8 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds) and has an electronically limited top speed of 171 mph (275km/h). Corresponding headline figures for the F-TYPE V8 S are 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds) and an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph (300km/h). Both feature all-aluminum construction, Adaptive Dynamics suspension and an Active Exhaust system.

Launched at this year’s Paris Auto Show and revealed for American audiences at the L.A. Auto Show, the all-aluminum F-TYPE represents a return to Jaguar’s historic roots: a two-seater, convertible sports car focused on performance, agility and driver involvement. Three models are available – F-TYPE, F-TYPE S and the F-TYPE V8 S. They are powered respectively by Jaguar’s new 3.0-liter V6 supercharged engine in 340hp and 380hp outputs and its 5.0-liter V8 supercharged producing 495hp.
