2009 Indian Chief Delux Vintage Custom

America’s first motorcycle manufacturer, Indian Motorcycle, has been acquired by Polaris Industries, Inc. Founded in 1901, Indian is well known throughout the world for its legendary iconic bikes. According to Stephen Julius, chairman of Indian, “Polaris is the most logical owner of Indian Motorcycle. Indian’s heritage brand will allow Polaris to aggressively compete across an expanded spectrum of the motorcycle market.”

Not to worry! Indian Motorcycle will still operate and manufacture their distinctive machines in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. The beauty of this marriage is that Polaris will be able to provide their technology and distribution expertise to allow Indian to realize the revitalization they have desired since the brand re-launch in 2006.

For the serious Indian Motorcycle connoisseur, there are still some original bikes available on eBay. Spanning from 1948 – 2009, the available bikes range from a 1950 Indian 500TT Warrior to a 1948 Custom Indian Chief w/Sidecar. (See photographs below)
