Many of us only have a vague understanding of how the complicated machinery works underneath the hood of our cars. Each day we jump into our vehicles, turn the key, throw it into gear, and drive off with barely a second thought as to the mechanical wizardry propelling us to our next destination.

Thanks goes to Jacob O’Neal who put a lot of thought into designing this infographic that explains the science involved with modern gas engines (including a note on hybrid systems). Click on any part of the infographic below to watch the animation in progress. Be patient and wait for it load. It is definitely worth the wait.

Thanks for the update. This is just what I was looking for. The schematics that you have posted here explains well about the functions of different parts under the hood.
