Grassroots Motorsports $2012 Challenge Powered by eBay

Motorsports  /   /  By eBay Motors

Without a doubt, racing at almost any level is an expensive sport. Accounting for the cost of the vehicle, hi-performance parts, countless hours of tinkering to make it faster — all add up to a significant wad of cash. What if you had a strict budget of $2,000 to work with making your car competitive and not look like it was pulled from Mater’s backyard? How creative could you get to produce a winning car and still remain within budget?

The folks at Grassroots Motorsports magazine were inspired to challenge the racing community and is back for another year of creative budget racing that began in 1999. Their low-buck showdown dares teams to buy, build and prepare a car without spending more than the $2,012 budget cap. As with past Challenges, autocross, quarter-mile drag race, and concours d’elegance judging will rank the field.

As a proud sponsor of the Grassroots Motorsports $2012 Challenge presented by Kumho Tires and powered by eBay Motors, we are contributing the following prizes:

  • $2,012 PayPal gift certificate awarded to the winning team
  • $1,000 (value) prize for attendee raffle

Curious as to what an inspired team of racing gearheads can do with $2,012? Take a peek at the video from last year’s race.
