eBay Listing: 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo

Classics  /   /  By Jim Pickering

Amphicars are a great choice if you want to travel up on the surface of a river or lake (unless they’re really rusty, in which case you’re headed for some involuntary swimming). Yesterday’s post got everyone over on eBay Motor’s Facebook page thinking about other ways to travel on both land and sea, and the way I see it, there’s probably no cooler way than in James Bond’s Lotus Esprit submarine.

This Esprit Turbo may be a little closer to the car from “Pretty Woman” than the one from “The Spy Who Loved Me,” but either way, it’s very cool, and still maintains the same basic shape as the sub-surface machine created by Q. This car has just 65k miles, a bunch of new parts, and a freshly rebuilt engine.

Esprits like this one are known for great handling, which makes them really fun to drive. But they are basically handbuilt supercars, and that means if you’re going to drive one regularly, you’ll be dealing with small issues from time to time – but isn’t that part of the fun of something like this? The seller says this car needs a driver’s side gas tank, but he’s kept up to date on the other little issues that have popped up.

The seller lists out a complete rundown of all the recent replacement parts fitted, as well as what’s been restored on the car. From that list, and from the looks of things, it should be ready for some worry-free use. Just remember to stay away from boat ramps — unlike Bond’s car, this one hasn’t spent any time over at Q Branch.

See the listing here.
