eBay Listing: 1971 Pontiac LeMans GT-37

Classics  /   /  By Chad Tyson  /  By Chad Tyson

Pontiac was all about performance in the ’60s and ’70s, but speed costs money, and not every buyer had a GTO budget. Pontiac had them covered with the GT-37. “There’s a little GTO in every new GT-37, and you don’t have to be over 30 to afford it,” claimed Pontiac’s TV ad.

The one-year-only GT-37 could be ordered with the performance options from the GTO in a lower-priced package. And as an added bonus, insurance was priced for a LeMans instead of the higher-premium GTO.

This real-deal 1971 LeMans GT-37 has a rebuilt 400-ci V8 (factory rated at 300 horsepower) and original 4-speed manual. The only new bits in the interior are the carpet, seat vinyl and three extra gauges “mounted under the dash to help keep an eye on the running condition.”

The seller says the car was purchased new in Lewiston, ID, giving it a head start against rust and road salt-induced corrosion. This car’s chassis appears very clean and rust free, and the paint looks great as well, complete with special GT-37 decals.

Provenance is key for properly valuing a collector car, whether it is a race car or tire-shredding muscle car. The original build sheet comes with this car as proof of its originality.

Recent sales of ’71 LeMans on eBay Motors averaged from $8k for good examples to almost $14k for excellent ones. Performance options like the GT-37 do tend to bring more, especially when they’re documented and in good overall condition. See how this one is doing here.
