eBay Listing: 1970 Plymouth Superbird

Classics  /   /  By Chad Tyson

Spurred by tremendous manufactured-back competition, the “winged warrior” Superbird was Plymouth’s stab at NASCAR greatness. The instantly recognizable 19-inch long nose and wildly tall airfoil reduced drag and provided enough downforce to stabilize the car upwards of 200 mph. Plymouth built approximately one Superbird for every two dealerships, producing 1,935 in total to comply with stock car racing.

The seller says this one is “100% original.”  Easy enough to believe as it sports only 18k miles from two owners, and has been sitting in dry storage the past 12 years. As seen from the pictures, the interior is in remarkable condition and the Limelight paint shows no major blemishes. There is only minor surface rust shown under the car, but nothing a bit of elbow grease couldn’t solve quickly.

The 440-ci V8 was underrated at 375 horsepower, and has never been out of the car. The car is equipped with the less desirable automatic transmission, but only 466 of the 440 4-bbl cars came with the 4-speed manual.

Recent sales of excellent condition 1970 Superbirds on eBay Motors averaged over $110k. The car is being sold due to the wedding of the seller’s daughter — hopefully it is an open bar. Click here to see this one’s auction listing.
