I’ve always preferred the “notchback” form of the VW 1600 to the more common squareback and fastback, but you just never see them. Most arrived here via Canada or came home with G.I.s stationed overseas, as they weren’t formally sold in the U.S. The current California registration on this 1965 VW 1600 is a big plus.

It’s far from stock, but looks like a very cool running project at the $3,500 buy-it-now price. I’d source some bumpers asap, but embrace the lowered stance and pick a paint color to compliment the white steelies. Most of the interior cosmetics are available off-the-shelf. The VW enthusiast community is a great resource for a project like this, to help with work and source parts.
