eBay Listing: 1955 Buick Roadmaster Riviera

Classics  /   /  By Chad Tyson

“This car is so big, I don’t even have a radio; I just bring in live acts.” Jay Leno once quipped about the 1955 Buick Roadmaster. He continued, “Once or twice a week I find one of those little imports crushed up under the fender.” Buick produced 28,071 Roadmaster Riviera 2-dr hard tops in 1955. Each one was 216 inches long and weighed 4,270 pounds of American steel and engineering.

The 322-ci V8 produced 236 horsepower — not enough to make the heavyweight a serious performer, but plenty with which to stylishly cruise around. The smoothness and levelness of the ride garnered a good percentage of brochure space and press clippings.

This Cherokee Red/Dover White Roadmaster has been recently restored to stock: Generator, single-stage enamel, original jack kind of stock. During the car’s restoration the owner included a rebuild of the powerplant (with no boring required), Rochester carb and Dynaflow automatic transmission. “She certainly drives as good as she looks.” The only issues mentioned are non-working power antenna and clock.

The seller summarizes the ownership history from the service manager at the Buick dealer in Everett, WA when new, to the seller today, emphasizing the car has not left western Washington. The 27,956 miles are believed to be accurate as well.

Seven 1955 Buick Roadmasters sold on eBay Motors in the past year. Good examples averaged $16k and excellent examples averaged over $27k. Click here to see how this one is doing.
