BMW Debuts 4 Series Concept at 2013 NAIAS in Detroit

The focus of BMW’s appearances at recent auto shows has been its i-Concept Series cars, and indeed their exhibit at the 2013 North American International Auto Show features its electric/hybrid powertrains. However, with an all-new generation of vehicles from competitors such as Porsche, Audi, and Mercedes Benz either on the road or on the horizon, BMW is also developing a new conventionally powered lineup, part of which we’re seeing at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. The new Z4, M6 Gran Coupe, and 4-Series Concept Coupe show off a lower-slung, more aggressive aesthetic than recent BMWs. Let’s take a quick look at some of BMWs featured rides at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show:

4 Series Concept Coupe: The much talked-about 4 Series Concept Coupe will make its world debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. In comparison to the current 3 Series Coupe, the 4 Series has a wheelbase that is both longer and wider. The sweeping, dynamic silhouette and lower roofline in addition to the wider stance all nod toward the 4 Series’ “big brothers”, the 6 and 8 Series. The 4 Series Concept Coupe portends a luxury sports car developed to bridge the gap between the classic 3 Series and the notably more expensive 6 Series.

BMW-M6-Gran-Coupe

M6 Gran Coupe: The four-seat (with room for five if needed) M6 Gran Coupe will feature the most powerful production engine given an M car from the factory; a 4.4-liter M TwinPower Turbo V8, pumping out an outrageous 560 horsepower. BMW’s Active M Differential keeps the insane torque (the maximum of 500 lb-ft is available from 1,500-5,750 rpm) flowing between the rear wheels, helping keep drivers on the road. Look for this giggle-inducing monster to hit the road this summer.
