1974 TVR 2500M

Classics  /   /  By Chad Tyson

This 1974 TVR 2500M has been under the same ownership since 1978. These cars are rare — only 946 (plus one prototype) were produced during the entire six year run out of Blackpool, England. And they’re even harder to find now, thanks to rust.

The car sports TR6 mechanicals, meaning parts are readily more available than the actual cars are. The 2.5-L six-cylinder produced about 106 hp new and was already emissions compliant. The TR’s 4-speed manual and differential naturally followed into the car.

The seller restored the car starting in 1996 and finished in 2001. According to the listing, every body panel was stripped to bare metal and redone. The engine was removed, resealed and repainted, too. A few custom touches were applied during the process, including a new exhaust system and an electric fan. Normally, rubber bumpers on mid-’70s British sports cars were entirely inelegant, but they don’t appear awkward on this car in the least.

Just nine examples of 1972-77 2500Ms have sold on eBay Motors in the past three years. Three of those were also 1974 models. The best condition of the nine brought nearly $16k. Click here to see how this one is doing.
