eBay Listing: 1966 Mercury Comet Cyclone GT convertible

Classics  /   /  By Chad Tyson  /  By Chad Tyson

Here’s a rare one – a ’66 Cyclone GT convertible. It’s one of just 2,158 built that year. And better yet, it’s said to have matching numbers and looks basically stock apart from some aftermarket chrome rims, triple gauges under the dash, and a newer stereo.

The GT package took the 1966 Cyclone from a middling intermediate to a full-tilt muscle car. It came standard with the 390-ci, 335-hp V8. More impressive was the tire-roasting 427 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm. The rest of the package included the (non-functional) twin-scooped hood, body stripes, special grille, heavy-duty suspension, front discs and dual exhaust. All of that cost just $274 more than the regular convertible.

The seller says it “runs and drives excellent,” giving you an immediate opportunity to smoke those thin whitewalls.

The black vinyl interior and top appear in great condition, with no rips, tears or major wear visible. The exterior paint shows shiny and clean, but the seller says it’s not show worthy. Under the hood is less cared-for, with paint chipping off of the block and intake and pitting on the cross braces. The hoses and plug wires appear as-new.

In the past several years, 78 1966 Mercury Cyclones sold on eBay Motors. Good examples averaged over $15k and excellent ones averaged nearly $27k. Click here to see this one’s auction listing.
